Losing weight has become big business in the Western world. There are so many weight loss programs about and a lot of the data out there sometimes contradicts other data that shows you how to lose weight.

There are diets to lose 9 pounds weight in eleven days, there are operating procedures that will reduce the size of the stomach (smaller stomach less room for food is the theory), there are gastric by-pass procedures. All of these ways to lose weight and many do not work or if they do they only last for a short period of time.

The simple theory of losing weight is to burn more calories than you consume. Eat less, exercise more is also a simple way to burn more calories than are consumed.

The biggest point in trying to lose weight is to get your mind pointing in the right direction. By that I mean you have to want to lose weight for real. You have to be able to visualize how you will look after you have lost x pounds of weight. A simple thing to do is to take a photo of your head and then add somebody elses body that looks like you want to look. Put the photo in a place where you will it everyday. That way you will see yourself everyday as you want to look.

From there progressively eat a little less food and if need be change to healthier food choices. Cut out the cookie or cookies you have with a cup of coffee. A cookie a day can add five pounds weight over a year. If you cut that cookie out of your diet you will lose five pounds in a year. Do that for the donut when you go to Tim Hortons or Wendys as well and in a year another five pounds lost. Pretty simple eh! Easy too, not always!

Likewise walk a bit further every time you go somewhere in the car, or if it is only around the block try walking instead. You did not gain all that extra weight in a week. It was a gradual process to gain all that extra weight so the body really need to lose all that extra weight in a reverse gradual process.

Do that, use a bit of common sense and with the right mind set you will begin to see results. Treat losing weight as a long term project, think out a year at the very least because really to lose weight is a life choice that will stay with you for the rest of life.
